Avvenu will be integrated into Nokia’s new Services and Software unit, as a part of the company’s re-organization planned in January. Once the acquisition closes, Nokia said it will use Avvenu’s expertise to provide a secure file access and share service to mobile workers, as well as an enhanced offering for wireless carriers. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

We previously mentioned that the iPhone has shown disappointing sales figures in the UK, but it seems that even laggard iPhones sales on UK s O2 network are still outselling rivals. In fact, all three European markets are reportedly seeing sales of the iPhone outpacing those of its closest, and highly subsidized, competitors - a group that includes the HTC Touch , LG Prada, Nokia N95, and Nokia s E-Series handsets.

One of the major competitors is Nokia’s new touchscreen phone up for release in 2008, with their new S60 touchscreen interface. The interface will support both finger and stylus input, multiple languages, tactile feedback (haptics), and Macromedia Flash Lite 3. The issue is that Nokia might be infringing on one of over 200 patent filings regarding the iPhone. Notice they’re filings and not yet full-blown patents.

The plan centers on its Web site at Ovi.com , which Nokia will market as a “personal dashboard” where users can share photos with friends, buy music and access third-party services like Yahoo’s Flickr photo site. The idea is to offer a single location where people can manage the content, services and contacts they accumulate when surfing the Internet on their phones and PCs, said Anssi Vanjoki, general manager of Nokia’s multimedia group, at the company’s Nokia World conference in Amsterdam.
